THEN AND NOW: Mirfield 1968 and just short of 40 years later in 2007

February 17th, 1969: Brush Type 4 D1847 (47197) has just passed Heaton Lodge Junction and is speeding towards Mirfield with an oil train for Leeds on a lovely crisp snow-covered February day

May 17th, 1968: Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48620, of Newton Heath, approaches Mirfield with a rake of coal empties. This proved to be my last action photograph of a steam locomotive in BR service although I visited 10F Rose Grove the week before it closed

March 28th 1968: Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48384 passes the sight of 56D Mirfield depot as it heads back to its home depot at Rose Grove, near Burnley, having earlier brought a freight to Healey Mills, nr Wakefield

December 14th, 1967: 8F 48182 (9B Stockport) runs light engine heading for Hebden Bridge at Mirfield

April 18th, 1966 - Busy Mirfield 1: Stanier 8F 48323 of Rose Grove stands at signals as a Newcastle Liverpool express passes with D285. Just behind is a second Class 40, D398, with a freight. All four tracks are in use - see next pic

April 18th, 1966 - Busy Mirfield 2: Taken seconds after the previous pic, the Newcastle Liverpool express has now gone out of view, the freight with D398 in charge is about to pass the 8F (48323) and now Class 40 D353 has appeared with a freight to the east

March 14th, 1967: Newton Heaton Black 5 44891 is towing fellow Black 5 44762 to Drapers, Hull, past Mirfield

March 14th, 1967: 9F 92080 of Carlisle heads for Hebden Bridge and Lancashire, past Mirfield depot with just two months service left

March 14th 1967: EE Type 3 D6836 at Mirfield with coal empties. The tanker train was hauled by EE Type 4 D349

March 14, 1967: Peak D168 (later 46031) nears Mirfield with a Liverpool Newcastle express

February 8th, 1967: Unusual working: Holbeck Brush Type 4 D1573 hauls EE Type 4s D249 and D390 plus Brush Type 4 D1997 to Crewe Works, passing Mirfield. See notes

January 31st, 1967: Sorry about the quality but interesting shot - two Class 40s head west. D353 is on a Newcastle Liverpool express and overtakes D385 on a west bound coal train

January 31st,1967: Newton Heath 9F 2-10-0 92016 at Mirfield with coal empties for Healey Mills. The engine was transferred to Carlisle soon after and survived until October

January 23rd 1967: Transferred from York to Wakefield, 9F 92006 is working hard with a freight for Lancashire passing 56D Mirfield, with only 2 months before withdrawal

January 1967: Unsure of exact date - late 66/early 67 - EE Type 3 D6863 (HM) heads west past the depot at Mirfield having recently been transferred from 87E Llandore
