By January 1969 the letter "D" had been dropped from Brush Type 4 1696 (BS) seen at York depot. Note the Class 20s, which were York based at this time. 1696 became 47108 and survived to March 1994

October 20th, 1967: Heading a parcels train south through York Station is D274 (50A), still in green. The engine survived to March 1984

June 4th, 1967: With three months service left Jubilee 45697 Achilles (55A) is seen inside 50A York depot

June 4th, 1967: Class 40 D270 (50A) inside the diesel depot at York

June 4th, 1967: A4 60019 Bittern is stored inside the diesel depot at York

March 27th. 1967: The Class 46s seemed to get painted blue pretty quicky - Gateshead's D186 (46049) at York. Behind is D1110 and D5155 with D6800 on the left. (sorry but the top of the cab is missing on the negative)

March 27th,1967: Tinsley EE Type 3 D6800 (Class 37 37100) at the far end of York depot where a number of diesels were usually to be found

March 27th, 1967: Newly delivered Class 20s D8300 and D8301 at York. Also present that day were D8302 and D8304.

March 27th, 1967: Deltic D9009 Alicydon enters York with a London express. Still in green livery but with large yellow front end

March 27th, 1967: Class 46 D184 (46047) arrives at York from the north with an express. Anyone know the route of 1A89

March 5, 1963 sees Q6 0-8-0 63459 (52F) had been withdrawn in October 1966 and is seen here stored at York. It was cut up in May 1967

March 5th, 1967: BR Standard 2-6-0 77012 inside York depot just 2 month before it was withdrawn

March 5th, 1967: Thomson B1 4-6-0 61030 Nyala at 50A York

October 2nd, 1966: Very poor scratched negative - Standard 3 77012 stands with K1 62042 in the roundhouse at York

September 11th, 1966: This shot of A4 60019 Bittern was taken in York depot just a week after its last run with the A4 special (see shot of it arriving at York in the York section). Its nameplate and front number have been removed for safe keeping ... though it still has Ferryhill painted on buffer beam ... though not for long, soon to be replaced with York.

September 11th, 1966: English Electric Type 3 D6731 (37031) of 50B Hull at York Deport. Also visible is Class 47 D1100

September 4th, 1966: A4 60019 Bittern passes York depot with the last official A4 run in BR service (taken with my brother's camera)

September 4th,1966: Class V2 60831 at York during September 1966. Just two of the class survived, both at York, by this date (the other being 60806). They had both gone by the end of the month bringing the end to this graceful and good-looking class on BR - luckily BR decided to preserve 60800 back in 1962/63

September 4th, 1966: Class 37 D6784 with unidentified B1s

September 4th,1966: Inside 50A York is B1 61337 and "Pig" 43123

May 15th,1966: York depot with Class 45 D89 Honourable Artillery Co (later 45006). Next to it is Class 46 D175 (later 46038)

March 9th,1966: Awaiting preservation is A4 60019 Bittern - seen inside York depot - now the National Railway Museum

March 21st, 1965: Merchant Navy 35007 Aberdeen Commonwealth had visited York with a special train from London and is seen at Chaloners Whin Junction soon after leaving York on its return south

Late 1964: A1 Pacifics 60140 Balmoral and 60138 Boswell stand in the diesel section of their home depot 50A York, both out of steam. Not sure of exact date. Amazingly an almost identical photograph (but in colour) appears on the cover of the September 2008 issue of Steam World
