June 2nd, 1989: This was only the second time I ever saw Class 20s at Mirfield during BR days. I had to jump out of the car and rush the shot - unfortunately only identifying the one nearest the camera as they sped away towards Healey Mills. The engine is 20227 in Railfreight livery |
June 18th,1988: Passing the site of Mirfield depot is Class 47 47423 heading a Newcastle - Liverpool express - soon after track lifting had taken place |
May 13th, 1988: In the more attractive original version of InterCity livery is Class 47 47553 (CD) heading a Newcastle to Liverpool express seen passing the site of 56D Mirfield depot. This Class 47 was originally built as D1956 and later became 47260 which it carried for only 6 months before being fitted with eth and becoming 47553. In 1989 it was renumbered 47803 which it carried until its withdrawal, finally being cut up at Rotherham in 2007 |

February 22nd, 1986: Class 56 56074 Kellingley Colliery comes off the Calder Valley line at Heaton Lodge Junction. By this date the "slow" east-bound line (2nd from left) had become disused. The lines to Huddersfield (behind the front coal wagons) were still double track with all Huddersfield-bound traffic using the underpass. It was later singled to east-bound traffic, west-bound using the line next to the 56. |
