June 29th, 1975: Class 47 47524 (formerly D1107) is seen at Barry Island station. See note
29th June 1975
On Sunday, June 29, 1975, we went on a "mystery trip" from Huddersfield to unknown destination - which turned out to be Barry Island. The engine was York-based 47524 (both ways) and, though I can't remember the exact route, the outward journey passed Toton and used a freight only line to Birmingham. The return was over the normal Midland route.
This picture was taken by my wife Fran and includes, on the left David Alcock (who has many images on this web site - see Collection 21A). next to him is myself and by the cab of the engine is Steve Crabtree, who has also contributed many images (see Collections 22, 23 and 25).
The 47 survives today on the Churnet Valley Railway
